White Bird, Idaho
Mild Climate. We live in Idaho's banana belt, its
little pot of gold. The average annual precipitation is 16"—some of it painting rainbows like this one over White Bird. We expect to see the sun about 300 days a year. The White Bird
area boasts long growing seasons, during which nature urges the sandy loam soils here to produce outstanding peaches, apricots and watermelons.
| Year-round Outdoor Recreation. Salmon River country has it all: Trophy elk, mule deer, whitetail and much more; there are
steelhead, trout, bass and sturgeon to catch from your back yard; wild turkeys are everywhere, plus chukar, pheasant, quail, and grouse. The area contains a wide variety of
raptors, including golden eagles. Bald eagles winter here and we often see them perching, fishing or just catching a thermal. They arrive as the ospreys leave for their own winter
habitat somewhere else.
The Salmon and Snake rivers both provide plenty of whitewater for rafting. You will find three ski areas and three golf courses within an hour
drive of Horseshoe Bend. Hells Canyon National Recreation Area and millions of acres of National Forest land are only minutes away. The Gospel Hump, Selway-Bitterroot and Frank
Church River of No Return Wilderness Areas offer nearby primitive settings for fishing, hunting and hiking in true solitude.
